What to expect with a gaming laptop under $ 700?
The graphics card and processor play an essential role in the case of a gamer config, so these are the most important features. However, several other parameters are to be considered.
The graphics card (GPU)
In the case of a portable gamer, the graphics card is the most crucial element, because it is the GPU that will handle the 3D modeling.
Always choose a laptop with a dedicated graphics card rather than an integrated graphics card. A so-called integrated graphics card is contained in the motherboard, it is often just a simple chip for 2D graphics. It won’t handle games well.
For less demanding games, like Minecraft or Fortnite, you won’t need to invest in very advanced equipment. For newer, resource-hungry games, however, you will need to invest in a slightly more powerful card, such as the NVIDIA GTX 1650. This will give you more 60 fps on GTA 5.
Processor (CPU) and RAM
In order of importance, after the graphics card comes the processor.
For gaming, choose a laptop with an i5 processor, at the minimum. An i7 is even better. RAM also plays an essential role. To have a fluid game, get at least 8 GB of RAM.
The screen
For gaming, a 15-inch laptop is the most common. They have the advantage of a sufficiently large display while limiting the impact on the autonomy, the weight, and the price. Also, a full HD (1080p) is a minimum here to enjoy the graphics of your favorite games.
Storage: HDD vs SSD
HDD (magnetic hard drive) is the most classic, but it is now completely supplanted by SSD. The latter has the advantage of the speed and can run your programs in seconds – including launching the operating system and applications.
For gaming, a minimum of 256 GB is preferable, although if you can get a 512 GB SSD, it’s even better. The most interesting case is certainly the combination of an HDD and an SSD, where you get both speed & storage, but this remains inaccessible at this price range.
Transport and portability
It is certainly not the primary objective of a gaming PC, but if you need to carry it around, you should check its weight. Gaming laptops are known to be heavier than traditional laptops. If portability is important, try to get a lightweight laptop under 4.5 lbs.

Top 6 Best Gaming Laptops under $700
1 – MSI GF63 – 15″ HD
“Powerful & lightweight gaming laptop”
The MSI GF63 is a quite powerful 15-inch gaming PC focused on mobility thanks to a new thin & light chassis. Powerful is the first adjective that comes to mind when approaching this MSI GF63. Indeed, its Intel i5 processor combined with 8 GB of RAM will give you enough power. But more importantly, it boasts a powerful GTX 1650 that will run the most recent games.
Its sober and compact design is another asset. Indeed, it will be one of the most portable gaming laptops you’ll find on the market. So you can both have a gaming laptop to play your favorite games, but you can also carry it outside your home to go to school or go work in a café. It’s not something that most gaming laptops will allow you to do.
So for its powerful GPU, portability, and price, this is probably the best 700 dollars gaming laptop.

2 – Asus TUF FX505DT – 15″ HD
“No Intel needed in this gaming laptop”
The Asus TUF family wants to delight players looking for a reliable device that’s able to run most games without flinching.
All that without breaking the bank. The FX505DT model fits this description fairly well. With its slightly crude foundry look, the TUF FX505DT immediately sets the tone. No frills, we are there to play, not to yawn.
Almost 1-inch thick and 4.9 lbs heavy, the case is entirely constructed of sturdy black plastic, with successful brushed metal effects. It is not the most portable $700 gaming laptop, but it’s also not that bad.
Asus signs a $700 gaming laptop for occasional gamers, looking for a good product. This TUF FX505DT fulfills its function, with its qualities and its flaws (don’t expect a long battery life).

3 – Acer Aspire 5 – 15″ HD
“Affordable with mid-range GPU”
The Acer Aspire 5 is a compact 15-inch laptop designed for everyday use. It has one of the best quality / price ratio and has all the assets to seduce. From a well-designed chassis, solid performance to a decent battery life of 7 hours, the manufacturer aimed for a balanced laptop that will fit most people’s needs, and indeed they succeeded!
It has everything you need to run most apps and for casual gaming: an Intel i5, 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD and a decent GPU, it’s perfect for an all-around device.
On the mobility-side, it’s not the lightest, but at less than 4 pounds for a 15-inch laptop, we won’t complain! Really a good value product by Acer.

# 4 to 6 Best Gaming Laptops under $700
4 – Microsoft Surface Book – 13″ QHD Detachable
“Versatile convertible”
The Microsoft Surface Book is undeniably a beautiful machine! The construction and finish are impeccable.
The hinge that serves as an articulation between the keyboard and the screen is very well done and adds a real cachet to the device. The hinge that holds the screen is solid, one of the best of all the 2-in-1 laptops.
As for the specs, there is something to celebrate. It’s powerful enough for casual gamers. Also, the keyboard is nice to use, as is the trackpad.
No, the Surface Book is not the “ultimate” gaming laptop, but we must admit that it has a lot to offer. It’s impossible not to salute its high-quality screen, its very solid construction, its comfort of use, or its autonomy which guarantees a long day of nomadic work. However, we do not give it 5 stars, because there is still room to progress. We would like, for example, that Microsoft improves the temperature management, and that the connectivity gains in variety.
Anyway, the Surface Book remains a very attractive hybrid that has a real identity, something increasingly rare on the laptop market. Read our full review.

5 – HP Envy 17t – 17″ HD
“Thin and elegant PC gaming”
Sporting the elegance of an ultrabook, the HP Envy 17t is however a large – and heavy – 17-inch laptop perfect for as a multimedia device.
And for good reasons. It packs no less than 16 GB of RAM and an SSD storage of 512 GB, two elements that will greatly increase the speed of the system. Also, a Core i7 and a dedicated graphics card GT 940MX which will run and 3D programs and allow for casual gaming.
The HP Envy 17t is a versatile laptop. Perfect for everyday computer tasks but also allows you to play occasionally.

6 – Asus VivoBook S15 – 15″ HD
“Portable and versatile laptop”
This one looks more like a high-end laptop than a mid-range notebook. The Asus Vivobook S15 is a balanced PC that knows how to make some compromises to offer what users expect.
Despite a 15-inch display, the Asus VivoBook S15 is remarkably light & compact while offering thin bezels in a brushed aluminum chassis that gives it a MacBook look.
For the rest, it is a medium performance machine for normal daily use like office use and movie watching. You shouldn’t stray too far from a wall outlet due to its lower than average battery life, but you will be able to game with its NVIDIA MX150. Read our full review.
