Home > Best Mid-Range Laptops > Best Laptops under $700
When I look at the best laptops under $700, this is where I start to be less forgiving. You should too!
With the best laptops under 700 dollars, expect quality, sturdiness, and good specs.
With less expensive notebooks, I tend to allow a few compromises: a dimmer screen, weak sound system, etc. It’s normal. The manufacturers have to cut somewhere to produce a quality product.
At $700, I tend to be much harsher on flaws. You should expect quality. Not necessarily high-end features, but a solid laptop with good performance.

What to expect from the best laptops under $700
There are two kinds of laptops in this category: the ultra-thin 13 and 14-inch notebooks and the 15-inch gaming laptops.
$700 laptops should be slim and sturdy. You should see and feel that they are quality products. They’ll look premium and you should expect a classy look.
But if you are looking for a gaming 15-inch laptop under $700, you shouldn’t expect a thin and ultra-light one. For that, you have to go into higher-end laptops. But they are usually mid-range gaming laptops thanks to their dedicated graphic card that’ll play most recent games at good settings.
Casing Quality
As I already mentioned, do not settle for under-average quality. Your laptop should look, feel, and be premium, especially in the 12 to 14-inch range. If you go for a 15-inch gaming laptop, you might sacrifice a little on the metal casing and the look to be able to get the features you need (processing power, graphics card, etc.). But still, it should be solid and built to last.
Display
The screen should be HD. I don’t care which laptop you choose, if it’s not at least an HD screen – 1920 x 1080 – you’re paying too much. Good brightness and color vividness should be expected.
Most of the $700 laptops will have a standard integrated video card and that’s more than enough for most people. If you’re looking for a gaming laptop, some will have a mid-range NVIDIA or Radeon graphic card that’ll allow you to play almost every games at good settings.
Sound
Expect a sound system that is clear and quite loud. This is still a laptop – and not a higher-end one – so don’t expect a lot of basses or the best sound on the market, but it should be more than enough to enjoy the latest movie or your favorite album.

1 – Asus VivoBook S15 – 15″ HD
“Light, Powerful & Portable”
I really like the Vivobook series in general, and this one is no exception. It delivers pretty much everything you expect in a laptop, at a price that won’t hurt.

2 – Microsoft Surface Pro – 12″ QHD Detachable
“Awesome Quality Product with less RAM”
I was quite surprised to find a version of the Microsoft Surface for that price. While you have to sacrifice some RAM and storage space here, you get one of the best quality laptop/tablet detachable on the market.
Its screen is awesome, so is the sound and the battery will last a full day. The only drawback is that the keyboard/cover is sold separately. If you don’t require too much power and are willing to spend more for the keyboard, don’t hesitate to choose this one, it’s really a great quality choice and one of the best 2-in-1 laptops under 700 dollars. 3 – MSI GF63 – 15″ HD
“Portable & Powerful Gaming Machine”
I’m still wondering how MSI managed to deliver such a powerful gaming laptop for such a low price. Usually they produce more expensive, high-performance gaming machines for hardcore gamers. But here they produced a powerful gaming machine at a mid-range price.
Sure, you don’t get a long battery life and the audio is quite weak, but those are the compromises to be made.
What you get is a portable, good-looking 15-inch with a graphics cards that belongs on $1500 gaming laptops.
This machine will run the latest games and when you’re done playing, you can bring it to college or bring it to work to use it as a powerful engineering laptop.

4 – Acer Spin 5 – 13″ HD Convertible
“Good Value & Powerful 2-in-1”
The Acer Spin 5 is a serious contender and is definitely one of the best 2-in-1 laptops under 700 dollars. Acer managed to deliver a lot of value at the right price in this well-built convertible notebook.
The HD screen is bright and it delivers quite a lot of power thanks to its i7 processor. They also made sure to put a 256 GB SSD to give you enough space and make it fast. It definitely deserves its spot on this list as one of the best 13-inch laptops under $700.

5 – Lenovo ThinkPad T460s – 14″ HD
“Sturdy & Portable”
As part of the ThinkPad business laptops line, the Lenovo ThinkPad T460s is really a great product.
Like its siblings, it’s an ultra-sturdy device that won’t break easily, perfect for the careless salesman on the road! It also comes with a nice full-HD 14-inch display. And of course, it’s portable, so you won’t break your back carrying it all day.
It still has one of the best keyboards on the market and delivers more power than you’ll need to carry your everyday tasks. Again, Lenovo really did a great job here!

6 – Acer Swift 7 – 13″ HD
“Ultra-thin design”
When Acer launched their Swift series, I was amazed. How could they build such a lightweight and thin laptop that delivers such performance. Really a feat of engineering.
But the first version wasn’t without flaws. Some overheating here, a dim display there. But fortunately for us, Acer fixed the problem! It’s still not perfect. You can get better performance with the competition or a brighter display.
But overall, the Acer Swift 7 offers an awesome laptop under $700 that can hardly be beaten when it comes to looks, design, and overall value. Read our full review.

7 – Acer Aspire 5 – 15″ HD
“Great Value with GPU”
Acer changed its Aspire E15 line that was so successful to produce the Aspire 5 instead. It’s a welcome change!
Not only did they keep the value that made the previous versions famous, but they improved by creating a lighter, slimmer, and better-looking product.
They basically kept the same formula. Produce a high-value, good-looking laptop that delivers good performance, and that includes a decent graphics card for casual gamers.
The screen is still a bit dimmer than the competition, and the audio is still average. But that what the customers have liked about Acer’s line for years, so why change a winning formula?!

If you’re looking for a tiny laptop under $700 that you can carry anywhere, the Microsoft Surface Go is probably your best bet!
It has all the quality of the Surface series, in a tiny, ultra-lightweight format. It’s perfect for someone that is always between clients.
This mini laptop won’t let you down when it comes to productivity. You’ll have all the features you need and it’ll be fast enough to work well. Of course, don’t expect a high-performance laptop, but it’s more than enough for most users.
It’s sturdy, comes with Windows 10 and its look is business-class. Really a nice mini laptop under 700 dollars!

And this one comes with an NVIDIA graphic card to allow for some gaming, something you won’t find on most laptops.

11 – Acer Swift 3 – 14″ HD
“Nice lightweight 14-inch”
I really like the Acer Swift series. The Swift 3 is no exception. Acer managed to produce a nice & affordable 14-inch laptop.
Acer made sure that this laptop would not disappoint… Too often I’ve seen laptop brands sacrifice here and there, and in the end, you end up with a water-downed product.
Here, they made sure the display was bright enough and that the keyboard is comfortable. So this is an all-around laptop that will please most users. Acer really did a great job here!

“Colorful, Sleek & Good-Looking”
Looking for a 15-inch but want something sleek and portable? The Asus Vivobook S530FA might be exactly what you’re looking for.
With a sharp 15-inch display with wide viewing angles and rich audio, it’s definitely a great movie-watching laptop. And with a weight of 4 pounds, it’s one of the most portables of its category. Add that to a solid, slim& good-looking body and you’ve got a great laptop under $700.
It doesn’t have the most colorful display, but has a quite long battery life and a satisfying keyboard. And it also comes in a variety of colors!

15 – Lenovo ThinkPad E590 – 15″ HD
“Shock-Resistant and Great Keyboard”
This one is sold as a business laptop under $700. The ThinkPad series always feature shock-resistant components that will survive the occasional drop and the glass of water that you unfortunately spill on your keyboard. For someone goofy or often on the road, that’s very useful.
For the rest, is follows the classic mid-range ThinkPad philosophy: offer a sturdy notebook with a great keyboard, while offering just enough elsewhere so that the average user won’t sacrifice much. In this case, the display is definitely not the best in the category with its lack of brightness, but is still good enough that most people working with it won’t see much difference. Performance-wise, there is nothing to complain about, it has the same configuration as most of the competition.
Overall, a nice-looking product that you should consider and clearly one of the best 15-inch laptops under 700 dollars.

Hello Eric. This post looks like ordinary laptops. What about the Asus Tuf FX505DT-AH51? It is a gaming laptop. It has the new GTX 1650 Graphics card, an 120Hz Monitor and a 256GB NVMe SSD Disk.
Even not for gaming, I think this laptop is worth the $699.99 currently on Amazon.

Hi Georgios,
Indeed this page is mostly for non-gaming laptops. I have another page for gaming specific laptops: gaming laptops under $800.
But the model you suggested does indeed look interesting, I’ll look into it soon when I update the page. Thank for the suggestion!
