What to expect from a laptop under $1000
In the top laptops under 1000 dollars, you’ll find two kinds of computers: High-quality laptops for the mass market and good performance gaming laptops for the casual gamer.
Great General computing laptops
At $1000, you’ll find good quality 12 to 15-inch ultra-thin & lightweight laptops that will be powerful and fast. Ā The build will be high-quality, sturdy and their design will make heads turn.
Good Gaming Laptops
This is where you start to see good gaming laptops that will perform enough for most gamers. Of course, it’s not a gaming desktop or a console, but if you’re a casual gamer that likes to play recent games, you’ll be satisfied with your purchase.
Make sure you choose a laptop that has a dedicated graphics card and you’ll be fine. If the main reason for your purchase is to play games, you might want to look at this article on the best gaming laptops under $1000 instead.
Casing Quality & Style
Stylish & durable, that’s what your laptop should be. Here, laptop manufacturers have no reason to deliver a poor quality casing and, thanks to Apple, they now know how to make a stylish product that will turn heads.
Most laptop casing will be made of metal – often aluminium or magnesium alloy – and you’ll feel it when you pick it up. Not only is it lightweight and ultra-thin, it feels solid and won’t bend when you hold it.
There are a few exceptions where laptop manufacturers prefer to put a (sturdy) plastic casing to save a little and put it in performance parts like the CPU or graphic card. You’ll see that in gaming laptops under $1000.
Display
With a laptop under $1000, there’s no excuse to have a poor display. Ā The images on your laptop should be vibrant, high-resolution and viewing angles should be – at least – decent.
You’ll find anything from 12 to 17-inch laptops, most of them being 13.3″. For most people, a 13-inch or 14-inch laptop is the best choice for both screen real estate and portability.
Performance
Most of them are equipped with an Intel i5 or i7 processors. Whatever you’re doing with your laptop, they’ll keep up with you. There are some seriously powerful laptops under 1000 dollars!
If you use your computer for web browsing, multi-tasking, and other office work, choose an i5 laptop, it’ll be plenty. But if you’re a programmer, designer, or like to play games, go with an i7 notebook.
Audio
No poor audio allowed on the best $1000 laptop. While it will never be as loud as a real audio system, expect a high-quality sound that’ll allow you to enjoy your music and movies without being distracted by poorly rendered sounds.

Top 15 Best laptops under $1000
1 – Asus Zenbook UX333FA – 13″ HD
“Incredible 13-inch”
The ZenBook series from Asus are all made of “thin & light” laptops. This 13-inch model – offered at a rather affordable price – is one of the thinnest in the family, so it gives you an idea of its portability: it weighs only 2 pounds and is the size of an 8.5 x 11 sheet when closed, so it fits easily in a small satchel … even in a handbag. All that makes it the best ultrabook under 1000 dollars.
It’s also an awesome looking 13-inch, very pretty in its royal blue dress, decorated with concentric “zen” patterns. It’s seriously one of the best-looking laptops I’ve seen.
Its beauty does not impede its performance, which it delivers a good deal of. In my opinion, its i7 with 16 GB of RAM and big SSD storage is ideal in our opinion for someone that wants a laptop that is going to last & perform for long.
It also offers a full day of autonomy, benefits from impeccable manufacturing quality, a useful & innovative touchpad, and a great display. Really an incredible machine by the Taiwanese manufacturer.

“Ultra-thin with awesome display”
The Dell really hit a home-run with the XPS series. Theyāre thin, sturdy, and are equipped with a gorgeous display. The Dell XPS 13 is a small, ultra-thin & lightweight laptop with an incredibly vivid QHD screen.
The build quality is top-notch and itās one of the most portable 13-inch notebook on the market (itās more the size of an 11-inch than a 13-inch). One of the best choice you can make for a laptop under $1000. Read our full review.

4 – MSI GF63 – 15″ HD
“Attractive & portable gaming laptop”
As a versatile, portable 15 inch, the GF63 does not disappoint. MSI offers here a powerful laptop, light enough to carry around and able of running almost all games on the market in Full HD, at a reasonable level of graphic details. You don’t get that on every laptop!
With its GF63, MSI offers a laptop for casual gamers who want the latest technology. The speakers come with Nahimic 3 audio and Audio Boost. Both provide a faithful sound with deep bass, but this part could have been improved.
It’s the perfect compromise for a gamer that also wants a portable gaming 15-inch under $1000.

“The best 12-inch under $1000”
The Asus Zenbook UX390UA is such a gorgeous, thin & lightweight laptop, it has to be on your list if you’re looking for a 12-inch notebook.
It has a vivid & colorful screen and, even at 2 lbs, it has nothing to envy to bigger laptops in terms of performance. It’s definitively one of my favorite small laptops on the market.

6 – HP Elitebook x360 – 13″ HD Convertible
“A great PC for business”
The HP Elitebook x360 is a 2-in-1 that is a little different from the brand’s other high-end products, including the Spectre. This one targets customers looking for optimal data security. The HP Elitebook range aims to appeal to those known as prosumers, that is, individuals looking for products that combine recognized manufacturing quality with features geared towards the professional world.
The HP EliteBook x360 is a successful hybrid computer. Its robustness & its trendy side will appeal to professionals looking for a high-performance, but also the versatility of its all-in-one side. The different native connectors, its 360 degrees touch screen, the excellent backlit keyboard, and its attractive technical datasheet make it a pleasant hybrid to use on a daily basis and certainly the best work laptop under 1000 dollars (or at least, in the top 3!).

7 – Microsoft Surface Book – 13″ QHD Detachable
“One of the most versatile laptop”
Microsoft built something interesting with the Surface Book. It’s one of the most versatile laptops you can find, thanks to its detachable keyboard that transforms into a full-working tablet, drawing pad, or movie-watching screen.
Speaking of display, you get one of the best on the market that works very well with the pen: very useful for any designer. And don’t let the detachable format fool you, it is a full working laptop with a comfortable keyboard, as comfortable as any other quality laptop. A really great 13-inch 2-in-1 laptop! 8 – HP Envy 13 – 13″ HD
“An ultraportable with a very good price-performance ratio”
With its Envy range, the manufacturer seeks to provide a high-end ultra-portable laptop, without necessarily falling into luxury, as is the case with its Spectre range. The HP Envy 13, provides a good configuration in a neat and good-looking chassis.
It is an ultraportable that delivers good value for money. Elegant, very well finished, and with a sufficient level of power to ensure common tasks – even 3D game with its MX250 graphics card. The HP Envy 13 also displays a comfortable autonomy of almost 9 hours.
We also like the very good keyboard and the fingerprint reader, which is handy for unlocking your Windows without a password. Only the screen disappoints a little, with its too shiny surface.

# 9 to 15 Best laptops under $1000
9 – Acer Swift 7 – 13″ HD
“Simply the thinnest laptop on the market”
Acer laptops mostly compete due to their great value, but here they made a premium laptop that intends to compete with the leaders. To do that, they simply created the thinnest 13-inch laptop on the market.
One look at it and you see it’s premium and it’s barely believable how thin it is. The built-quality is there and performance is pretty good, but not the best. The fan-less design is interesting since you don’t hear any sound and it does work well. A great choice if portability is important, and one of the best i7 laptops under 1000 dollars on the market. 10 – Samsung Notebook 9 – 13″ HD
“Thin & Powerful”
With the Notebook series, Samsung built a competitive and quality line of product. This one is a powerful and ultra-light laptop at 1.9 pounds!
This makes it a great laptop for a college student that wants a laptop that he can carry around all the time and wants to make sure it lasts all the way through college.

11 – Samsung Galaxy TabPro S – 12″ HD Convertible
“A nice tablet, a decent laptop”
It’s tough not to give the maximum score to the Galaxy TabPro S. An almost impeccable screen quality, very comfortable endurance and a pleasant keyboard are its main qualities. However, it is not perfect. The absence of a backlit keyboard, the magnetic plastic hinge too flexible will have cost him the top positions.
And yet the Galaxy TabPro S is a successful attempt to walk in the steps of the Surface Pro 4. By recycling the design of the Tab S under Android and, above all, by opting for an Amoled screen, Samsung manages to offer an attractive and highly mobile product.
If you are looking for a beautiful tablet in Windows 10, without necessarily expecting a high-end laptop experience, this is a product of choice.

12 – LG Gram 13 – 13″ HD
“The lightest 13-inch on the market”
The LG Gram 13 is attractive for several reasons and deserves to be on this list as one of the best 13-inch laptops under 1000 dollars. First, there is its portability, performance, the autonomy of its battery, and the quality of its screen. If you’re looking for a laptop that offers portability, performance, and endurance, the Gram is the perfect laptop for you.
The portability is impressive with the LG Gram 13. It is not the smallest laptop, but it has a fairly slim chassis and a surprisingly light construction. In addition, the LG Gram 13 is upgradeable. As a configuration, you have 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, enough to properly run a computer of this size.

“Powerful Hybrid 15-inch”
It might not be at the top of the list, but the HP Envy 15t x360 is still a good purchase. It’s very powerful with its i7 processor, 8 GB of RAM, a fast SSD drive, and it has the Envy line quality.
The HD screen is good and the battery life decent for a 15-inch, and they’ve put a fast SSD for a near-instant boot. A good laptop from HP and one of the best touch screen laptops under 1000 dollars!

14 – HP Spectre X2 – 12″ QHD Convertible
“Quality 12-inch with power”
Spectre is the high-end series of HP. The X2 is the 12-inch detachable version and it has the quality of its siblings. For a laptop that you can carry around all day, this might be your best choice! The keyboard is solid and comfortable to type with, more than most small laptops on the market.
It has a bright QHD screen, an m7 processor to ensure that you get both power and long battery life. HP made few compromises with this notebook!
