What to expect from the best laptops under 600 dollars
So what will you get from a $600 2-in-1 laptop? Depending on what you are looking for… you can get quite a lot for your money.
There are basically 3 categories here. You can get…
- a pretty good 15-inch laptop that’ll be great for multimedia.
- a portable 13-inch or 14-inch notebook with decent power
- a small laptop that you can carry anywhere (but that is usually less powerful)
Design & Quality
As with any 2-in-1 laptop, you get a versatile device that’s is great for watching videos or very useful during meetings.
The smallest ones are detachable laptop / tablet hybrids where you can detach the keyboard from the screen. When you get over 13-inch, they are usually convertible laptops where the base of the laptop folds behind the screen.
Performance
Performance-wise, you can expect a pretty powerful laptop. Not enough to play demanding games or high-end software, but definitely more than enough for the average user.
Most of them are equipped with an i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM, which gives you all the performance you need for heavy multi-tabbing and running pretty much any software.
Others will have an i3 processor. This one slower than the i5, but still more than enough for web browsing and video streaming.
Display & Graphics
An affordable 2-in-1 laptop will have a display quality that can vary. Some of them will have a superb screen that will be colorful and vivid, others will be dimmer. Why so much difference? Compromise.
You can get a great display, but your laptop won’t be as portable. Or you’ll have a vivid screen on a light laptop, but you’ll get less performance.
But in any case, expect an average-to-great HD display. They are all satisfying, it just depends on what’s more important to you.
Audio
Here it’s a hit or miss. Some in this category will have loud & clear audio, others were clearly not built with audio in mind. You’ll still be able to listen to music and watch videos on all of them of course, just expect some to be much better at it than others.
Other Aspects
Battery life is an aspect you want to consider if you are often on the road. They vary quite a lot, but usually you can expect the best 2-in-1 laptops under $600 will give you at least half a day of battery life.

1 – Acer Aspire R15 – 15″ HD Convertible
“Great Display & Loud Audio”
Acer really went out of its way to provide great features on an affordable laptop. This is a perfect 2-in-1 for watching movies!
Let’s start by saying that, at 5.29 pounds, it’s not the easiest laptop to carry around. But that’s where the limitations stop.
The design is solid and doesn’t feel wobbly when you change between modes. It has a seriously gorgeous display that you wouldn’t expect on an affordable 2-in-1 laptop and a pair of speakers that would make some high-end laptops blush.
I’m not kidding… this is a really nice 15-inch 2-in-1 laptop under $600!

“Versatile 13-inch with a lot of Value”
When I recommend a 13-inch hybrid laptop, more often than not, the Asus Q304UA comes in mind. Asus really built a 2-in-1 laptop that delivers a lot of value.
It’s a portable, light laptop that you can easily carry around – and afford! For the price, it has a good quality display and enough performance for most users. It looks good enough to use as a business laptop, and is definitely one of the great choices as a laptop for college students. Read our full review.

“Best Small Detachable”
This one is definitely the leader in the small detachable laptops niche. When it first came out, it had a unique design. And while it has been copied since, it’s still undeniably one of the best of its category.
You’ll appreciate the vibrant high-resolution display that is simply one of the best on the market. When you remove the keyboard, you’ll feel the high-quality design of the tablet. And with one of the best responsive stylus, it’s pretty useful to take notes in meetings or for graphic designers. 4 – Lenovo Yoga 710 – 15″ HD Convertible
“Well-Rounded 15-inch 2-in-1”
The Lenovo line have great 2-in-1 laptops of all sizes. They are sleek, well-designed and portable. This Yoga 710 is no different. Of course with a 15-inch display, you can’t expect the lightest laptop on the market, but at 4.5 pounds, it’s actually pretty decent.
If you forgive its average battery life and the lack of ports, I recommend you consider it. Apart from its nice display, you also get loud speakers and a comfortable keyboard. All qualities that you should be looking for in a well-rounded laptop.

5 – Dell Inspiron i5378 – 13″ HD Convertible
“Nice 13-inch 2-in-1 under 600”
This is a classic Inspiron. It won’t win a performance contest nor with it last longer than most on a battery-fight, but otherwise you get a good value 13-inch hybrid. The design is well-done and made of aluminum, so you don’t have to worry… you’ll get a good-looking solid laptop that is easy to carry around.
It also has a nice display to watch movies, although you might need earphones if you are not in a quiet environment since the sound system is average. Add that to a comfortable keyboard, it makes for a nice laptop for college.

6 – Lenovo Yoga 720 – 12″ HD Convertible
“Vibrant 12-inch Display & Loud Audio”
This 12-inch notebook lives up to the Yoga name. The Yoga line has been making very nice convertible laptops for years now and their know-all is reflected in this sleek device.
A word of warning: you should not choose it if you are looking for a powerful laptop with much storage. With an i3 and 4 GB of RAM it will perform basic tasks well, but you won’t be able to run demanding programs. And with 128 GB of storage space, you’ll have to rely on online storage. But anyway, that’s not what this laptop is for!
It’s designed for someone that needs a solid laptop on the go, that fits into a briefcase and that’s always available when you need it. For that, it’s a perfect small device! So whether you need a laptop for work of for taking notes in college, it’s a great choice!

7 – Asus Transformer Mini T103HA – 10″ HD Detachable
“Great Tablet / Laptop Hybrid”
This one is for you if you need a mini-laptop that you can carry anywhere. You just pick it up and put it in your backpack. At less than 2 pounds, you don’t have to worry about weight or size, you won’t notice it’s there.
But you still do get a fully functional laptop that makes a great school laptop for taking notes. Don’t expect to run heavy programs – it won’t – but you still have a Windows laptop that’ll run most of them. It’s really a great tablet-laptop hybrid! Read our full review.

8 – Asus VivoBook Flip 14 – 14″ HD Convertible
“Powerful & Lightweight”
The Taiwanese laptop manufacturer made a nice lightweight laptop here. Apart from the nice aluminium design, it’s not the best in anything, but it delivers just enough everywhere so that it strikes a nice balance in every feature.
For a 2-in-1 laptop that sells around $600, they included as much performance as more expensive laptops. So if performance is important, it won’t let you down with an i5 processor & 8 GB of RAM. The display is less bright that we are used too on the VivoBook line, but it’s not bad. And the included stylus is also a nice addition and something that artists will appreciate. All-in-all, a nice 14-inch laptop from Asus.

Now this one is a well-balanced 2-in-1 laptop under 600 dollars. It’s not the best at anything, but it delivers just enough value everywhere so that you’ll get a quite powerful 15-inch convertible.
Performance-wise, it’s as good as any other since it’s a laptop equipped with an i5 processor and 8 GB of RAM. Definitely more than enough for the average user. And it’s SSD drive ensure that you’ll have a fast system. As it often happens with Acer, they sacrificed a little on the display brightness, but you still get a decent screen.

“14-inch with Nice Display”
If you ever had a Pavilion device, you know what to expect of this 14-inch 2-in-1 laptop. It has a pretty good look even if its made of plastic, and it also delivers on its promises elsewhere.
You do get a nice device that’s equipped with a quite decent display. On the performance side, you have nothing to worry about, it’ll run any program you need as long as you are not looking for a gaming laptop. Add that to the fact that it’s a portable laptop thanks to its lightweight design and you actually get a very decent 2-in-1 under $600.

12 – Acer Switch 3 – 12″ HD Detachable
“12-inch with Good Display & Design”
As a tablet replacement, the Acer Switch 3 is a decent choice. The design is pretty unique and ingenious and it comes with a stylus so it’s easy to take notes and draw.
You also get a nice display with an audio system that has nothing to envy to more expensive notebooks. What you don’t get thought is power. On that side, it reminds me more of a tablet than a laptop. I’d choose at least a laptop with an i3 if you need more. But for a second laptop that you carry around, it’s a good option as a 2-in-1 laptop under 600 dollars.
