At start when laptops were launched they used to be so big and expensive, but with time a lot has changed and today one can easily find a laptop in any size. But I’d say size is not something that matters more than weight, yeah these days there are plenty of lightweight laptops available in market and that too for a decent price. Many people tend to think that with less weighed laptop they are getting limited features, but that’s not true at all and even thin lightweight portable notebooks can provide you with everything that you’d get from a regular laptop.
Alright, so if you are thinking about benefits of these kinds of lightweight laptops then let me tell you about it, first of all, they are very easy to carry around, their speed and overall performance is not compromised due to their weight and also they come for pretty reasonable price. These laptops are great for people who keep moving entire day since these kinds of notebooks are strong enough to easily handle few accidents and possible drops. Other than being solid and strong they are also sleek and definitely the most attractive tech device ever made.
Since this technology is very much new, most of these notebooks come with Intel Core processors, 500 GB hard drive, good resolution screens, cameras and long battery backup. Now you must be thinking that they must be so expensive, but don’t worry about their price that entirely depends on the brand and model. 10. Acer Aspire S3-951-6646 Ultrabook
This 13.3-inch model from Acer Aspire series is definitely one of the lightest and oldest ultrabooks. It was first revealed in October 2011 and since then it has been among the best seller laptops. This device from Acer is very similar to Apple MacBook Air in looks and slimness and I’d say only difference between them is of Operating System. Yes, this one comes with Windows 7. Other than latest OS, it includes 4GB RAM, 320 GB hard disk drive, 128 MB Intel HD graphics card and Intel Core i5 processor of 1.6 GHz. Keyboard and touchpad are very responsive and to be honest I haven’t seen this kind of responsive touchpad in any Windows device yet. Performance is also great in this notebook since it comes with an i5 processor. This model can easily be compared with Apple MacBook Air in performance and still you’re getting it cheaper than MacBook.
9. Toshiba Portege Z835-P372
This Ultrabook from Toshiba is one of those laptops that simply can’t be compared when we talk about weight. Yeah, the Toshiba Portege Z835 P372 was designed to be the most ultrathin, lightweight and fully portable notebook. Specs are similar to the above device which are Intel Core i5 processor, 6GB RAM, 128 GB SSD and Windows 7. This one definitely has to be my favorite ultrabook because it comes with 6GB RAM and I think 4GB RAM is really getting obsolete. When you first look at its solid metal body you will think how much heavy it might be, however, after you pick it up you’ll be blown away with its lightness. My best friend owns this laptop from last 7 months and his been playing World of Warcraft on it pretty smoothly. So I also recommend this device in case you’re looking for a gaming laptop. Annoying thing these days in notebooks is its inner noise which can be harsh when they are warm but this one is totally different from those and is silent all the time.
8. Dell XPS 13 – 1000sLV
Dell has always been on top when it comes to reliable laptops and this model is no exception. Design is something that is really impressive and performance is great too thanks to its SSD drive. It boots almost instantly and comes with Genuine Windows 8. There are plenty of models when we talk about Dell XPS 13 but this one I found most reasonable with decent specs. Anyways, let’s see its specs, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, Intel HD graphics 4000 and SSD of 128 GB. The only thing that lacks in this silver 13-inch ultrabook is that it doesn’t have an SD card slot and limited memory is something I didn’t liked in it. If you can settle with these then it surely is the best and lightest laptop for you.
7. Acer Aspire S5-391-6495
Yet another ultrabook from Acer Aspire series in this list but this one is better than the last one plus comes with better specs. Currently it is priced at around $940 and can be easily found at nearby local stores or online websites. Specs too are very competitive in this 13-inch ultrabook since it includes i5 Intel Core processor of 1.8 GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, Intel Graphics card of 128MB and SSD of 128 GB. Since it is the latest model of this series it comes with Windows 8 and weighs slightly less than 2.6 pounds. This is the model you can absolutely say the latest laptop since it was first revealed in January 2013 and according to most of computer experts, it is the most reasonably priced ultrabook.
6. Samsung Series 5 NP530U3B-A01US 1
So far the best lightweight laptop from Samsung and best thing about this ultrabook is that it has two different versions in which you can choose 500GB hard drive or 128 GB SSD. Currently it costs about $800 and includes 4GB RAM, Intel Core i5 processor and Genuine Windows 7. I personally got to use this device for about 4 months and I really liked its resolution of 1366×768 which was perfect for me. Cooling was probably the best thing in this ultrabook since I use my laptop almost all day and even while I am on bed. And there is absolutely no noise while cooling; it is completely silent all the time. Performance definitely had to be great due to its advanced i5 processor and SSD drive also helps a lot to perform quickly. Even for gamers, I recommend this laptop since I have been playing few HD games on it very smoothly.
5. Lenovo ThinkPad x230
Ultrabooks from Lenovo have always been known for being extremely lightweight and portable and this one is definitely no exception. This model is available in two colors which are Premium and Economic and also two different versions where in one you get Intel i5 processor and in another one i7 processor. Other than swiftest processor it includes 4GB RAM, Intel HD graphics card, 500 GB hard drive and Windows 7. It can easily run anything you throw at it like HD games, heavy video editor or Photoshop thanks to its i7 Intel Core processor. Its keyboard is also known for being very much accurate and comfortable even in dark room due to its backlit which can be adjusted with brightness. This 12-inch ultrabook can truly be the best if you’re looking for lightweight yet powerful laptop.
4. HP Pavilion dm1-4210us
Here is the first mini laptop in this list of lightweight notebooks and definitely the king of thin and light devices. It comes with 4GB RAM, 500GB hard drive and Windows 7. I am not really happy with its processor which is AMD 8032 1.4 GHz but here we’re looking at lightweight laptops so here it is. Battery life is most of time great in mini laptops and this one can last for about 7-8 hours with single charge. It is extremely ultra portable and feels exactly like iPad 2 in length and weight. It is mostly praised for its design, lightness, battery, web camera and only downside I found was it lack DVD drive. Anyways, that’s not a problem these days and it already has plenty of features so it definitely is worth $400.
3. Lenovo IdeaPad U300s
I reviewed this ultrabook from Lenovo recently while unpacking it in video on my YouTube channel and I don’t think any laptop can be any lighter than this one. Its specs are perfect since it has i5 Intel Core processor of 1.6 GHz, 4GB RAM and 128 GB SSD. Since it comes with advanced specs, performance is not going to be an issue and I have already tried playing few games on it and they all ran smoothly. Overall, I’d say it is designed nicely and can be easily compared with Apple MacBook Air in lightness and solidness. Screen resolution is only thing which is less than MacBook and other than that, they are both the same.
2. HP Envy 14 Spectre
Another Ultrabook from HP in this list but this one is not from Pavilion series, it is from Envy series which is currently the best series of powerful and reliable laptops. You can get this model for about $800 and this 14-inch laptop may not be the lightest device but its performance is definitely going to cover for it. It comes with i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 128 GB SSD and 1 GB graphics card. Currently it is available in two colors, silver and black. This one clearly is the very high quality PC device and every single piece of hardware within it is of premium quality. It looks like HP has copied Apple while designing this and I got that thought when I saw the glowing HP logo on its back. Anyways, if you travel around a lot and want a lightweight yet powerful notebook then check this out and I am sure you’re going to love it.
1. Apple MacBook Air
God knows how many versions there are of Apple MacBook Air, but all of them are extremely lightweight and solid. Currently we are reviewing the one with i5 processor, 4GB RAM and 256 GB SSD. Apple MacBooks have always been known for being lighter, sleeker and slimmer. If you compare it with MacBook Pro then it’s really going to be tough choice to make but my vote goes to MacBook Air since it is best in virtually every aspect including performance and sound quality. Anyways, lately people have been complaining that I over-rate Apple products but what can I do if their devices are so great in every aspect? Well, you can believe me or go and check out other reviews where you’ll see what others are saying about it.

I think most lightweight laptops would be those that are tablet+laptop because most of them are about 10-12 inches and are extremely thin.. and in 2013 finding one of those is not a big deal since their price is very much similar to regular laptops..
