I have to admit, each time I’ve had to choose a laptop for myself, I’ve chosen within the best 14-inch laptops on the market.
While the other screen sizes have their advantages, I think that 14-inch laptops are the best compromise between portability and screen size.
Even if you don’t have that much more screen space compared to a 13-inch, it gives you just enough to make a difference. It helps to comfortably work in programs like Excel or to work with side by side windows. And they are definitively more portable than 15-inch.
… 14-inch laptops are the perfect compromise between screen size and portability, but are also less common …
Unfortunately, they are kind of a rare breed: it’s much easier to find a 13 or 15-inch than a 14-inch laptop. Therefore, it’s tougher to find one within your budget and that fits your needs.

1 – Asus Zenbook Deluxe UX490UA – 14″ HD
“Style & Quality”
It’s no secret that the Zenbook series is one of my favorite and this 14-inch addition is no different. While it’s more expensive than its brothers, it’s a hell of a laptop! You get a high-end 14-inch laptop that’s going to be suitable for you, whatever your needs: it’s ultra-thin, light and very powerful. The only thing it won’t do is play games – in fact it will, but it’s not the best for that – but otherwise you get quality, style and performance.

3 – Acer Swift 5 – 14″ HD
“Great looking ultra-thin 14-inch”
Acer really did something good with their Swift line. And thankfully for us, they didn’t forget people that prefer 14-inch laptops. The Swift 5 has a sturdy & beautiful magnesium-alloy chassis that is so light at nearly 2 pounds, you wonder how they did it. It will definitively please the portability fan in you. With a full HD 14-inch, a good audio system and speedy boot times thanks to its SSD, it’s really a laptop I recommend. Read our full review.

4 – Lenovo IdeaPad 720s – 14″ HD
“Great for CAD or Video Editing”
The Lenovo Ideapad 720s is a slim, lightweight 14-inch. You get a great quality notebook at a reasonable price equipped with a dedicated graphic card, perfect for engineers or if you are working in graphic or video editing. The HD screen is colorful & vivid – but too glossy for my taste – and the speakers produces clear, crisp audio. The chassis is sturdy and the keyboard, very comfortable. All-in-all a pretty good product from Lenovo. Read our full review.

Here you get a solid, quality all-aluminium laptop equipped with a HD screen at very low price. 7 – Asus VivoBook S410UQ – 14″ HD
“14-inch Affordable Gaming Laptop”
This is the 14-inch notebook to go to if you do anything that involves gaming, 3D or high-resolution image editing. It’s the laptop that delivers some of the best performance in this list. It has a quality & lighweight casing, powerful CPU and a mid-range dedicated video card for 3D. All that at a very reasonable price. They sacrificed a little on the screen & audio, but it still very acceptable for a mid-range laptop. Here, Asus a very competitive 14-inch that delivers value.

8 – Lenovo Yoga 710 – 14″ HD Convertible
“Great value hybrid 14-inch laptop”
I’ve already put the Lenovo Yoga 910 in this list, but I had to list the Yoga 710 as well. It’s not as premium as the 910, but definitively delivers better value at less than $800. It has a great style, crisp HD screen and decent audio. It’s not as perfect as its bigger brother, but is a great product nonetheless.

# 9 to 15 Best 14-inch Laptops
9 – LG Gram 14 – 14″ HD
“Ultra light 14-inch laptop”
I reviewed the LG Gram 15 not long ago and was impressed by how light they made it. This is the 14-inch version of the line and it has the same ultra light frame – 2.14 lbs! – as its bigger brother. It comes with either an i5 or i7 processor, so performance is not a problem and the battery will last pretty long if don’t use it at full brightness. Unfortunately, the carbon & lithium magnesium alloy could be stronger. They should improve on that in the next version to really compete with other high-end notebooks.

“THE classic 14-inch business laptops”
If you work in an office you’ve seen hundreds of those! The Lenovo ThinkPad T460 has the classic Lenovo look that has been around for years. It’s classy and packed with business features. You can upgrade the battery, performance is good enough for pretty much anything you want to do, it’s quite portable and is sturdy. The 14-inch screen is not the most crisp of this list, but that’s the case with most business laptops.

This one is for the user that doesn’t require that much power – like web browsing and editing office documents – but still want a budget laptop that’s light, has a decent battery life and that features an HD screen. If that’s you, you’ll like the Asus VivoBook E403SA. Of course at that price it doesn’t have the quality and sturdiness of the others, but it does deliver a lot of value.

“Sturdy business laptop”
This is a very good business laptop by HP here. Study and classy, it will survive assaults most 14-inch laptops won’t. As you can expect you’ll have to pay a premium for that, but if you have a tendency to drop your coffee on your keyboard, it might be worth the investment!

13 – HP Pavilion x360 – 14″ HD Convertible
“Good mid-range hybrid”
The Pavilion x360 is a fair hybrid notebook by HP. It doesn’t revolutionize anything, but it’s actually a pretty good mid-range laptop. You get a 2-in-1 14-inch notebook that you can carry around easily thanks to its lightweight frame. Performance-wise, it has nothing to envy to the other best 14-inch laptops and the quality is quite decent.

14 – Lenovo Y40 – 14″ HD
“Powerful gaming laptop with 14-inch screen”
The Lenovo Y40 is actually a pretty good computer. The reason it’s so far in this list is that it’s not for everybody. It’s aimed at a gaming crowd with its bulkier black and red design and is not as light as the others. While very powerful, it’s also an older model that comes with Windows 8.1. But performance wise, it’s one of the best on this list.

15 – HP Stream 14 – 14″
“The cheapest 14-inch laptop you can find!”
I wouldn’t purchase this laptop for an everyday computer, but as a second laptop or one for kids, it does what it has to do. At around $200, you cannot ask much from a 14-inch laptop, but it’s still decent for web browsing and playing online games. There are few colored laptops on the market, but this one definitively stands out from the silver or black competition.
